KUSD Induction Information

Keppel Union School District Induction

The Keppel Union School District Induction Program provides a pathway for teachers holding a California Preliminary Teaching Credential to earn a Clear California Teaching Credential.

The goal of the Keppel Induction Program is to ensure that the academic and theoretical preparation is transformed into practical success for both new teachers and their students, while emphasizing the continued professional growth of new teachers.

Vision Statement

The Keppel Induction Program is the bridge that spans the stage between the teacher preparation programs and full licensure through the attainment of a clear credential. The Induction Program elements fit into three categories:

  • Individualized support of the candidates by a trained Mentor who is an experienced, proficient educator and Mentor.

  • Creation of an Individualized Learning Plan that drives the focus of the candidate’s teaching growth and reflection to meet the requirements of the Induction Standards.

  • A variety of professional development opportunities that support a Candidate’s Individualized Learning Plan as well as the goals of the class, school, and district.

Admission and Eligibility Requirements

Teacher preparation programs at colleges and universities begin the process of preparing new teachers for the profession. When new teachers enter the classroom, additional support is needed. To facilitate this process, the Induction and Clear Credential Programs provide the following:

  • Support from a mentor teacher who will address local context, priorities, and goals.

  • Professional Development opportunities.

  • Recommendation to CTC for the clear teaching credential upon completion of the program.

If your preliminary credential specifies that you must participate in Induction to earn the clear credential and you do not follow these instructions, you will not be authorized to teach in a California public school. You must complete a Clear Credential or Induction Program before your Preliminary Credential expires. Access your credential online www.ctc.ca.gov

The Keppel Teacher Induction Program offers a state-approved Induction Program. Full time teachers hired by Keppel Union School District are eligible to participate in the district induction program. Part-time teachers may be eligible under specific, special circumstances. The Keppel Teacher Induction Program is a two-year program and candidates are assigned to a mentor within the first 30 days of enrollment. Teachers with one or more years of previous teaching experience may be eligible to combine Yr. 1 & 2 into a one-year early completion option. Contact the Induction Coordinators for information about this one-year option.

Admittance Requirements

  • Hold a CA Preliminary Teaching Credential

  • Hold a Certificated teaching position in KUSD

  • Complete a Eligibility Advisement Form

  • Meet with the Induction Coordinator and Credential Analyst

Completion Requirements

The Teacher Induction Program conducts multiple formal and informal reviews of Candidate Progress and Completion throughout the year. The following formal process is implemented to assess Candidate progress, level of mentor support provided, and monitor program completion for each Candidate.

Mid-Year Review:

  • Candidate submits documents completed to-date online, including Individualized Learning Plan and Evidence.

  • Induction Coordinator meets individually with each Candidate and mentor to discuss their work on the ILP, review their evidence of growth across the Continuum, and give further advice and assistance, if needed.

  • The Induction Coordinator will notify the mentor if a plan for improvement is needed.

Year-End Interview:

  • Candidate will submits completed documents online, including Individualized Learning Plan, Continuum Growth Documents and Evidence.

  • Year 2 Candidate, a mentor, the Induction Coordinator and a district Administrator participate in an Exit Interview.  The candidate will discuss their ILP Goals, Professional Development, Inquiry Research and Continuum Growth Documents including evidence of growth.  It is determined at that time if any further documentation is needed.

  • Year 1 Candidate, Induction Coordinator and Site Administrator participate in an End of Year Triad Meeting.   The candidate will discuss their ILP Goals, Professional Development, Inquiry Research and Continuum Growth Documents including evidence of growth.   Candidate will also set their goals for the following year.

Final Review:

When all requirements have been met, Coordinator submits Verification of Completion to Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.  Candidates are recommended to CTC by the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.  Credential Analyst assists the candidate in applying for their credential. Credential Analyst then follows up with the Induction Program to make sure candidates have followed through in completing the application process.
